Breast Cancer Awareness
Hello Valued Patients, Fellow Warriors Fighting Breast Cancer, Families and Friends. This month is my 5 years and 7 months in remission and counting as a Survivor of Breast cancer. This disease, as real as it is for many, it was for me 8 years ago when I was first diagnosed. There were many battles fought and won, goals set and achieved, hopes lost and found to reach where I am today, in order to live; to see my beautiful children grow into a fine young man and woman that I am extremely proud of. I have so many people to thank who helped me through my difficult years knowingly and unknowingly; for giving me this opportunity to strive in always looking to see the light at the end of the tunnel. What better way to celebrate and acknowledge all the love, support, encouragement and help I received during my cancer journey than supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month this October. I am hosting a Pink Ribbon Fundraiser for October with my work family who support me wholeheartedly with empathy and love. Our clinic is full of pink for the month of October with various informative pamphlets sourced from BreastScreen WA to create more awareness of Breast Cancer. I would love your support in reaching my fundraising goal for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, in the hope one day we will find a cure. Donate Here.
MoreI Had it Twice! Life Story of my Own Orthodontic Experiences
Hello and welcome to my first blog article! My interest in orthodontic treatment started from a young age. In 2000, a good friend from high school had braces after one summer holiday. He showed us his “gadgets”. I was really intrigued by the metals and wires that were moving his teeth. It became a true eye-opening experience for me after my mum took me to an orthodontist to have braces put on myself. The whole braces experience was very exciting for a teenager at that time, but the passion did not last long. I quickly grew bored of the treatment and was not keen with brushing. As many of you, the daunting adjustment appointments, pain from the metal and teeth moving, the constant food trapping all had been nothing but a hassle for a rebellious teenager. Luckily my teeth were not so bad to begin with, the treatment took less than 18 months, which was considered very fast treatment for braces. Life went on and in 2016 I started my Invisalign journey. After learning basic orthodontic movement, my interest grew even more when I saw an Invisalign Advertisement. Funnily enough, my own straight teeth as a teenager had moved after the wisdom teeth started growing. I had finally taken all my wisdom teeth out in 2019 (It took me almost 10 years to have all of them removed, which I deeply regret. In hindsight, I should have done them when I was a student. Once work started, there was not much time to plan for such events as my own experience entails.) In 2020, I decided to correct my teeth again with Invisalign. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to try one of the early generations of Invisalign. What amazed me was the progress in technology in just a short 3 years! There is a definite control of the outcome, less aligners required and more comfort in the wearing experience with the material. After only 10 aligners, my lower front little overlapped incisors are back in line with the other teeth again!
MoreInvisalign Experience
Hi my name is Robecca, I am the Practice Manager and the smile you’re greeted with when you walk into Hulme Court Dental and Implant Centre.2020 staples a new beginning for myself and my children as we started to rebuild our lives from previous traumatic life experiences. I now owned freedom to care for myself, not just being a caregiver, I have always been. Having worked alongside Dr Kay for years, I have seen and shared the experiences of our lovely patient’s transformation and boost in their confidence through orthodontic treatment. My daughter is now a teenager and her teeth required extra attention as she’s grown. Knowing my daughter, she wasn’t going to handle traditional braces because she aspires to be a Model. The amount of work and training for her portfolio would require a high level of aesthetics. I believe Invisalign would be a better suit for her. After discussions with Dr Kay it was agreed that it would be a great bonding experience for my daughter and I to journey through the Invisalign experience together. Although I was quite fortunate to have reasonably straight teeth, when I was shown the before and after of my teeth with the iTero Scanner, it became clear that there was still room for improvement! The prospective outcome had me excited. As we speak today, I am complimented on my teeth daily. I guess it’s the best thing for someone who works for a Dentist. My personal Invisalign journey has taken place over 8 months – how my teeth look now is more than I ever anticipated. My smile is larger and brighter than ever, and my self-confidence has soared. What I have enjoyed the most, besides the changes to my own smile, has been supporting my daughter throughout her journey. My full understanding of the process helped me on the days when my daughter, like all teenagers, needed extra encouragement. The best thing I could do as her Mother was to be her role model myself. So far both our experiences have been positive. I am truly thankful that with the knowledge I acquired during the process, we’ve been fortunate to avoid butting heads.
